Homewood man charged with hate crime will undergo testing

Pol Danilov of Homewood will undergo psychological testing in the next month to determine if he is fit to stand trial on a charge of attempted murder of a shopper at a Homewood grocery store, according to Cook County State's Attorney officials.

Judge Michelle Pitman ordered a fitness report for Danilov at a brief court hearing Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Circuit Court of Cook County 6th District Courthouse in Markham. Danilov will be examined by a psychiatrist, according to Tandra Simonton, a spokesman for the Cook County States Attorney's Office.

Danilov was charged with a hate crime and attempted murder in October after he allegedly stabbed a 79-year-old woman at Walt’s grocery store, 2345 183rd Street. The incident was believed to be unprovoked.

Court officials expect to have results from the testing in time for Danilov's next court appearance Jan. 30.

Danilov is being held at Cook County Jail.
