The Homewood District 153 Board of Education presented teacher Kim Tallugan the Jerry Morin Educational Excellence Award in recognition of her outstanding efforts in the classroom as well as her many hours of volunteer time.

Tallugan, the sixth grade band director at Millennium School, is known for her upbeat personality, said Millennium Principal Dave McAtee.

Through her program, she does an outstanding job at preparing students for symphonic band. She promotes the fine arts not only at her grade level, but throughout the Millennium-Hart School complex, McAtee said.

She also gives a tremendous amount of time after school helping students. Tallguan coaches the Girls on the Run program and serves as a Check and Chat facilitator, part of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program.
