Tuesday at its regular meeting Homewood trustees will consider a contract with Global Studios to begin the first phase of a project to develop a community science center.

Trustees voted Dec. 23 to proceed with a conceptual plan for the project and entered into a contract to purchase Ryan’s Funeral Home as the likely site for the center if it is deemed feasible.

The $80,000 contract will include feasibility study, discussions with local stakeholders, development of a preliminary space plan, timeline and cost estimates, according to village officials.

Depending on the outcome of the first phase, trustees could consider proceeding to the second phase, which would cost $95,000 and would include design of exhibits, educational programs and projected operating budget.

In other business, the board will

  • Consider a resolution terminating Special Service Area 1, which was part of Washington Park TIF. Because the TIF expired, Cook County asked the village to terminate the area.
  • Witness the oath of office administered to Paulette Wysocki as water billing clerk and to Bob Pettigrew as street supervisor.
  • Consider a resolution congratulating Thomas Chestnut for 25 years service to the village.
  • Consider an ordinance to reduce the number of Class 1 liquor licenses from four to three and an ordinance to create a Class 4B liquor license.
  • Consider a budget amendment to enable the purchase of new equipment for the fire alarm system in the Public Safety Building.
  • Consider an amendment to the AT&T lease to allow a generator to be placed at 2536 Hickory Road and increase the lease rate accordingly.
  • Consider an ordinance allowing a special use permit for a restaurant at 17536 Dixie Highway.
  • Consider granting financial assistance to Jonathan Kane Salon and Spa and to Homewood Florist from the Downtown Homewood Business Incentive Program for improvements to business facilities.

The board of trustees meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the board room at Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
