Six H-F students advance in ACT-SO competition

Students at Homewood-Flossmoor High School have been selected to participate in the national ACT-SO program in July in Atlanta.

ACT-SO is an initiative of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).  ACT-SO is an acronym for the Afro-American, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics. It is an academic mentoring and enrichment program that provides career exploration and a competition in 27 categories focused on the sciences, humanities, business, performing arts and visual arts, according to the NAACP website.

H-F students named gold medalists in regional competition and advance to the national meet are: Marlene Slaughter in dramatics; Jabari Khalig in oratory and photography; Edwyn Mitchell in dance and Kenneth Bivens in painting.

Silver medalists are Arianna Parker in performance poetry; Edwyn Mitchell in oratory and Jabari Khalig in dramatics.

Keita Morris, a bronze medalist, will perform in performance poetry.
