There wasn’t a ray of sunshine at 9 this morning, but that didn’t matter to Blackhawks fans.

A few regular commuters could be found between the sea of red shirts and Hawks hats. These fans at Homewood’s Metra platform were there with one purpose — to get downtown to cheer on the Stanley Cup champions!

Flossmoor residents Bruce Holland and his daughter, Kathryn, 14, were going down for the parade.

“Everyone’s a really big Hawks fan right now,” Holland said, including his daughters Kathryn, an incoming Homewood-Flossmoor High freshman, and her sister, Mary, 10, who watched all the Hawks games.

“We’re just checking out the parade. We’re going down for the experience,” Holland said, with his rain jacket close at hand.

“SCORE!” as Patrick Foley, the Blackhawks announcer, would say. Rick Bloomberg of Homewood was one of the lucky ones to score tickets to the rally at Soldier Field.

He was taking his sons Louie and Josh with him. The boys were going to cheer on their favorite players, team captain Jonathan Toews and superstar Patrick Kane.

Chicago Heights residents Renee Sanchez in her Hawks T-shirt and Sam Sanchez, in a Marian Hossa jersey, met up with Kyle Deran of Homewood in his 2015 Stanley Cup T-shirt. They were ready for a good time as they headed to the parade. The only question was where to stand — Michigan Avenue or at Soldiers Field.

A group of college students, who decorated their faces with red and white glitter and little Blackhawks tattoos, were hoping for a glimpse of Patrick Kane, 26, their favorite Hawks player who they described as “sexy” and “hot.”

And Patrick Kenny, wearing his official credential on a lanyard, was on his way to work — at the Blackhawks rally.  The Homewood resident is an employee of Anheuser-Busch, an official sponsor of the Blackhawks. He wasn’t sure just what his job for the day would be “but it should be a fun time.”
