The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Brass Quintet will perform at Ravisloe Country Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, sharing American pop favorites, Baroque pop favorites and patriotic music to set the tone for the 4th of July holiday.

IPO trumpeter and quintet organizer Greg Fudala has planned a concert of toe-tapping American favorites that will serve as an audio appetizer for the upcoming 4th of July holiday weekend, according to IPO officals.

Fudala brings a warm and witty style of sharing composer and composition details, along with encouraging a little audience participation, to the show.

“This year, we really went for audience appeal in choosing our program,” Fudala said. “We have an American pops suite, as well as a Baroque pops suite. The goal was for people to enjoy some of their favorite popular American tunes and then go back in history 500 years and experience the parallel ‘popular music’ of that era.”

A few John Sousa marches, Morley Calvert’s Suite from the Monteregian Hills, and the first “six months” of Peter Schickele’s The Brass Calendar will also appear on the program, along with a selection of patriotic favorites.

In addition, Fudala said he is looking forward to the “world premiere” of a trombone and accordion version of “Lady of Spain” with Adam Moen on trombone, which will no doubt generate mass “ooohs” and “ahs” from the crowd.

The quintet includes Greg Fudala, trumpet; Ross Beacraft, trumpet; Adam Moen, trombone; John Schreckengost, horn; Sean Whitaker, tuba.

Ravisloe’s restaurant, The Bunker Bar and Grill, will be offering themed dinner and drink specials for each of the four summer concerts. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling the Club at 708-798-5600. Offerings on July 1 will include specialties such as:

  • BBQ Bourbon Shrimp and Grills
  • Pulled Pork Sandwiches
  • White Wine Spritzers
  • 4th of July Martinis
  • Electric Lemonade

Additional concerts include Tango & Strings on July 22, A Summer Wind Serenade on August 12 and Cool Jazz on a Hot Night on Aug. 26.

Concerts take place on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. either in the Great Hall or in the courtyard. The July 1 concert is scheduled for the courtyard, weather permitting. Doors open at 6 p.m. for seating and on-site ticket sales.

A 4-concert subscription is $100. Single tickets purchased in advance are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. New this summer is a $10 student ticket rate with ID and a $19 tickets for groups of seven or more. Group sales must be arranged in advance by calling 708-481-7774.
