On Sunday, Oct. 4, the annual Cancer Support Center Walk of Hope is expected to bring 1,000 participants into Homewood for the 21st annual fundraiser. The goal is to raise $115,000.
Supporters can walk the Homewood course as an individual or a team participant. Walkers can go a mile, three miles or five miles. The course starts at Irwin Park, Highland Avenue and Ridge Road.
Registrations begin at 9 a.m. The Survivor Celebration and award program will begin at 10 a.m. and the walk officially steps off at 10:30 a.m.
Register now through Sept. 25 at the $30 rate for walkers 15 and older. The fee increases to $35 for registrations between Sept. 26 and Oct. 4. The registration fee is $15 for children ages 5 to 14 years old.
“The Cancer Support Center has strived to provide strength, guidance, and support to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis, as well as to their loved ones,” said Karen Horn, director of development.
Horn said the Cancer Support Center helps all participants at no cost as a community-based, volunteer-driven, donor-supported organization.
“From identity issues to emotional and physical scars, life post-treatment can be full of confusion and distress. Our programs, resources and services are always delivered by professional therapists, counselors, nutritionists, and experts in a warm, welcoming and nurturing setting,” Horn added.
