Superstar Jennifer Hudson headlines Ingalls Hospital gala

The business landscape in Homewood will have several new features in coming months, including martinis, more doughnuts, a new source of fresh produce and painting parties.

At the annual economic development breakfast hosted by the village Thursday, Homewood Mayor Richard Hofeld provided an overview of new businesses that are hoping to open soon.
He announced that a martini bar will open at the southeast corner of Ridge Road and Dixie Highway, the former home of Global Fusion.

The establishment, which is being developed by local attorney David McDermott and his wife, Dana, will have a 1920s speakeasy theme. A request for a liquor license from Copper Still Entertainment Group is on the agenda for the Tuesday, April 26, board of trustees meeting.

Produce and other foods will be available a half-block east of the martini bar when the South Suburban Food Co-op moves from Park Forest to Homewood and opens a store called Beans & Greens.

The co-op’s store will be at 1941-1943 Ridge Road, until recently the home of Independent Days.

Co-op representative Michelle Horbach said she hopes the new store will be open by mid-May.

Hofeld also announced that Krispy Kreme is planning to open a doughnut shop in Homewood.

Carlos Larcada, president of Chicagoland Restaurants LLC, said the restaurant likely would be located in the Halsted commercial corridor but details about the location and opening date are not yet available.

Hofeld noted that a Bottle and Bottega franchise would be launched this year. Bottle and Botega is a painting party service that bills itself as “one part artistic adventure and one part cocktail party” on its website

Darcie Loudon announced on a local Facebook page Saturday that she and her husband, Greg, are planning to open a studio in Homewood. Although plans for a location have not been finalized, she said the couple would begin hosting pop-up parties in late May.

Hofeld noted other business developments for the coming year:

  • Jonathan Kane Salon & Spa is expected to make the move to Homewood from Flossmoor soon. The salon, which received a special use permit from the village last year, will be located at 18065 Harwood Ave. opposite Suzy’s Hallmark.
  • The Walmart Supercenter is expected to open in October. Construction is under way now as the company completely renovates the former Kmart store on Halsted Street.
  • Menard’s announced it would close its Halsted Street store for up to nine months to complete significant renovations and expansion. Hofeld said the store is expected to close early in July.  The villages of Homewood and Thornton sold portions of 175th Street and Brown Derby Road last year to provide the company room to expand.
