Independence Park once hosted Homewood’s early schools

Heather Hill School in Flossmoor has a new principal.

  Keith Davis

At a special meeting Monday, Flossmoor District 161 Board of Education members unanimously voted to appoint Keith Davis to the principal’s post.  He succeeds Patricia Fears, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Heather Hill, one of five District 161 schools, currently has 252 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Superintendent Craig Doster said Davis has more than nine years educational experience in grades from the kindergarten level though high school.

Davis is now serving as assistant principal of curriculum and instruction at Confluence Academy-Old North Campus, a charter school, in St. Louis, Mo. According to his LinkedIn page he also serves as academy director for fifth through eighth grades.

Previously, Davis served as dean of students, history department chair and head football coach at Urban Prep Academies for Young Men-West Campus in Chicago. He has a master’s degree in educational organization and leadership from DePaul University and is expected to complete his doctoral degree in educational leadership from Saint Louis University next month.

“I am dedicated to the success of students and I look forward to using my experiences, training and professional development to help students and their families,” Davis said.  “My main goal is to assist in the academic and socio-emotional progress of students.  I find that one of the greatest rewards in life is experiencing first-hand student achievement and progress.“

Davis said he would welcome input from the community and that his door will always be open. He said “we will make excellence a habit” at Heather Hill.

“During the course of my tenure as principal, I hope that we will work together to provide the students of Heather Hill Elementary School an exemplary education and afford them opportunities that will prepare them to be model citizens and lifelong learners,” he said.
