Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s DECA program had 16 students advance to international competition after competing March 10, 11 and 12 in state competition.
The 16 students were named top 10 finishers and 13 of those students were selected to go on. DECA sponsor and teacher Michael O’Neill said three students also will participate at the international competition in the “Thrive” Leadership Academy.
Students who will compete at the competition in Nashville April 23 through 27 are:
John Weeks, business finance; Jorden Levine, business services marketing; Bolu Ajanaku, principles of finance; Joanie Coderre, principles of hospitality and tourism; Michael Gavin, restaurant and food service management.
Olivia Bergeron and Emma Brown, travel and tourism team; Hannah Levy, Hannah Lichtenberg and Julia Schwieterman, community service project; Ryan Bergal, Michael Havighorst and Allie Humphrey, learn and earn project; Joey Humphrey, Jimmy Humphrey and John Weeks, business operations research.
Kevin Steiner, Bernie Coderre and Joey Humphrey were selected to attend the “Thrive” Leadership Academy.

DECA was organized at H-F in 2004. The extracurricular club prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
H-F had 51 students in state competition. They were selected after placing in first, second or third place at DECA Moraine Valley South Region competition in January.
In addition to the students moving on to international competition, the following students represented H-F:
