Shifts in Homewood schools administrative ranks coming in June

The Homewood School District 153 school board is preparing for leadership changes in the next two years as two principals retire and Millennium School closes.

Principals CeCe Coffey at Churchill School and Mary Ann Savage at Willow School are set to retire in June 2017. Losing these two administrators has opened up slots in the ranks.

Closing Millennium, which serves fifth and sixth graders, will shift fifth graders to Churchill School in the 2016-17 school year. The student body there will be third, fourth and fifth grades. Sixth graders will be at James Hart School, now serving seventh and eighth graders.

In June 2016, Dave McAtee, Millennium principal, will transition to assistant principal at Churchill School. Mary Kay Gardiner, Millennium assistant principal, will take on administrative duties for the district, including Student Support Services, residency, grants and mentoring/evaluation.

Coffey has been principal at Churchill since 2001. When she retires, Nikki Kerr, the current assistant principal, will move into the principal’s role. McAtee will continue serving as assistant principal.

Savage has been the principal at Willow School since 2006. She will be succeeded by Melissa Lawson, the current assistant principal. The new assistant principal for 2017-18 will be Nancy Wood.

There are no changes planned at Hart School where Scott McAlister serves as principal with Laura Ugo as assistant principal and John Ugo as dean of students.
