Hutchinson supports $2.2 million increase in local school funding

Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Olympia Fields) said an increase for schools passed by the Illinois Legislature and signed by Gov. Bruce Rauner Thursday will bring an estimated $2.23 million to schools in Homewood and Flossmoor.

Hutchinson’s district includes parts of Flossmoor. She was a co-sponsor of Senate Bill 2047 that funds these increases.

According to numbers released by Hutchinson, the legislation gives an additional $658,321 to Homewood District 153; $712,723 to Flossmoor District 161; and $864,976 to Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

“The vote means parents won’t have to worry that their children’s school won’t open on time this fall. It means college students can have faith that their MAP grants won’t be delayed and that their degree means something from their academic institution,” she said.

“And it means the countless human services providers who have been asked for almost a year to continue taking care of our most vulnerable without being paid will finally see payment,” she added.
