H-F High has 79 seniors named Illinois State Scholars

A Matteson man has been charged with two counts of reckless homicide following a February crash that took the lives of a passenger in his car and the driver of another vehicle.

  Justin McNeal

Justin A. McNeal, 24, of the 21000 block of Locust Street, was charged Wednesday afternoon, Flossmoor Deputy Police Chief Tod Kamleiter said.

Members of the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team, (SMART) conducted a traffic crash analysis and determined that McNeal, the driver of a 2006 Infiniti, caused the crash by travelling at a high speed and passing the other driver in a no-passing zone, Kamleiter said.

Also, McNeal was operating his vehicle on a suspended driver’s license, he said.

McNeal, who was hospitalized following the crash, turned himself in to Flossmoor police, Kamleiter said.

The accident took place at about 9:20 p.m. Feb. 21 in the 19800 block of Crawford Avenue.

According to a Flossmoor police report, the accident occurred when McNeal’s vehicle attempted to pass a 2005 GMC driven by Robert Munse, 52, of Country Club Hills. Both cars were southbound on Crawford.

McNeal apparently lost control of his vehicle and drove into the driver’s side of the GMC. Both cars spun around and ended up on the east side of Crawford.

A northbound driver told police that he witnessed the crash in his rearview mirror.

Munse was pronounced dead a few hours later at Franciscan St. James Health in Olympia Fields, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Maurice Champion, 22, of University Park, was also pronounced dead following the accident. He was one of two passengers in the Infiniti.

McNeal and the other passenger were taken to St. James for treatment.
