Drug take-back is Saturday in Homewood

Got a cabinet full of old medicines? Drop them off at the Homewood Farmer’s Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Drop-off will be at the Homewood Village Hall parking lot, 2020 Chestnut Road.

Representatives from the Cook County Department of Environmental Control will accept expired or unnecessary over-the-counter and prescription drugs for collection and proper disposal.

According to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, pharmaceuticals entering the water can navigate through water treatment plants and enter Chicago area waterways impacting the treatment plants, then fish and plant life and the groundwater and waterways.

The medical community and government agencies urge you to not flush unused medications down the drain, nor toss expired drugs in the garbage. Disposing them at the Saturday collection is an environmentally safe process.

The village of Homewood is co-hosting the prescription drug take-back.
