Sept. 10 Flossmoor Fest offers full day of family fun

Flossmoor Fest returns Sept. 10 with a full day of activities for all ages. This year’s festival — located on Sterling Avenue in downtown Flossmoor and at Flossmoor Park — again features food, music, games for the kids and a great chance for friends and neighbors to get together.

Flossmoor Fest returns Sept. 10 with a full day of activities for all ages.

This year’s festival — located on Sterling Avenue in downtown Flossmoor and at Flossmoor Park — again features food, music, games for the kids and a great chance for friends and neighbors to get together.

The festival is underwritten by the Village of Flossmoor. A number of individuals and businesses are also sponsoring the event, including the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle. The newspaper is providing a poster-size front page “selfie frame” where fest-goers can take photos they can upload to social media.

This year’s festival starts at 11:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony featuring Mayor Paul Braun and the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Band. Concert baritone Mike Cavalieri will perform the national anthem.

Children’s activities in Flossmoor Park are taking place between noon and 5 p.m. They include Flossmoor Fire Department demonstrations, pony rides and the Kiddie Express train, face painting and crafts, a gaming truck, mini-golf and a balloon artist.

Student choirs will perform on the stage outside the library between noon and 3 p.m. Choirs include singers from Infant Jesus of Prague School, Western Avenue School, Flossmoor Hills School, Heather Hill School, Serena Hills School, Parker Junior High School and the Grande Prairie Children’s Choir.

The H-F Steppers are scheduled to perform at 3:30 p.m. A community drum circle will take place at 4 p.m. at Flossmoor Park.

Evening entertainment includes three bands — Retroactive from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Not My Dad and Two Chicks from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Party Crashers from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
All performance times are subject to change.

The Flossmoor Community Relations Commission (CRC) booth will welcome new neighbors with a gift and provide all community members with information from local organizations that focus on service, sports, arts, nature and other special interests. Fest-goers can pick up a passport and visit organizations around the festival grounds. Persons who return their stamped passport will be eligible for a prize.

The Chronicle’ selfie frame will be located at the CRC booth and copies of the newspaper will be available to fest-goers.
