Walmart announced Monday it will hire about 200 local associates to work at the new supercenter slated to open this fall in Homewood.

Job seekers may apply online at www.careers.walmart.com. The majority of new associates will begin work soon to help prepare the store for its grand opening.

The company did a complete renovation of the former Kmart store at 175th and Halsted streets.  The new store will replace the one about two miles south on Halsted Street in Glenwood.
The 200,000 square-foot supercenter at 17550 S. Halsted St. will include a full line of groceries and a wide assortment of merchandise and a fuel center

“We are eagerly anticipating the move to our new location in Homewood,” said Store Manager Dan Wheling. “With major construction complete, we’re in the home stretch for our grand opening.”

New associates in Homewood will join the team of 53,700 Walmart associates in Illinois.

Walmart provides a benefits program to eligible full- and part-time associates, including a variety of affordable health and well-being benefits such as health-care coverage with no lifetime maximum.

Walmart will offer a job to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active duty. Walmart’s Welcome Home Commitment, begun on Memorial Day 2013, has assisted more than 120,000 veterans. Interested veterans can learn more at www.walmartcareerswithamission.com.
