H-F Park District’s Park Pride spring clean-up set for May 6

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is looking for volunteers to spend a few hours cleaning up and planting during the district’s 31st annual Park Pride event on May 6.
Individuals and groups are encouraged to come out starting at 8:30 a.m. to clear away winter debris and plant summer flowers in one of the 32 parks maintained by the district.
“People typically work at a park near their home, or one they frequent,” said Joe DeCicco, recreation supervisor who is organizing the event. Volunteer groups are urged to register ahead of time.
The park district will provide the garden implements, trash bags, mulch and plants. DeCicco suggests volunteers bring gloves.
Each volunteer will receive a purple T-shirt decked out with the Park Pride logo. Volunteers are welcome to a luncheon starting at 11 a.m. at the Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood.
DeCicco said the first 200 volunteers will take home a Burr Oak or Swamp White Oak tree sampling donated by Living Lands and Waters of East Moline, Ill.
For information, or to register, call the park district at 708-957-0300.
