Site work underway for three businesses at Flossmoor’s Meijer complex

Work on new businesses on both sides of Flossmoor’s Meijer complex has commenced.

Crews this month began grading the site of a Buona Beef restaurant, to be located just north of the BP station at Crawford Avenue and Vollmer Road.

Meanwhile, excavating is also underway for a four-unit building that will house a Starbucks and an AT&T store. That space is located just west of the Meijer access road off Vollmer and east of the detention pond.

Scott Bugner, Flossmoor’s inspectional services administrator, said building permits for both projects have been approved.

A groundbreaking for the AT&T and Starbucks building is planned for Aug. 29. Bugner said the village is attempting to arrange a groundbreaking for Buona Beef on the same morning.

Flossmoor village board members approved the Buona Beef plans in February. The chain, which specializes in Italian beef and sausage sandwiches, plans to build a 3,920-square-foot restaurant on an outlot at the Meijer complex.

A proposal by 6801 Investments LLC, the project’s developer, also calls for a second building to be built on the same outlot sometime in the future. That 4,500-square-foot structure would be constructed just west of Buona Beef.

Developers said it will take about 16 weeks to finish the Buona building once construction begins.

The village board approved plans for the building next to the Meijer pond in March.

The AT&T store and Starbucks store will be housed in a 7,420 square foot building. The Starbucks will have approximately 1,920 square feet of retail space and will be located on the west end of the building. It will have a drive-thru window and an outdoor patio.

The 1,780-square-foot AT&T store will be located on the east end of the building. No plans have been announced for the building’s two interior units.

Meijer owns and plans to develop five outlots at its complex. The Meijer superstore opened in June 2016.

About Us

A great community deserves a great newspaper. The HF Chronicle was created in June 2014 as the Homewood Chronicle (but we soon realized Homewood and Flossmoor are so interconnected that it makes better sense to cover both villages). Our mission is to chronicle the life of our community — news by, for, and about the people of Homewood and Flossmoor, Illinois.
