Homewood’s Wally Burns Post 8077 selected 10 students as local winners as part of the national Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot’s Pen essay contest.
Winners were Blair Bowden of Glenwood Academy; Cassandra Cross, Christina Cortes and Katelyn Nottke of Infant Jesus of Prague School; Luke Wieland of James Hart School; Luke Griggs, Samuel Hall and Josiah Griggs of Parker Junior High; and Tyler Lloyd and Taylor Roquemore of St. Joseph School.
Students were asked to write on the theme “The America I Believe In.” They focused on America’s immigrants, a strong military, freedom of religion and dedicated first responders.
Honorees each received a monetary award.
