Party to help raise funds for South Suburban Family Shelter set for March 25

Supporters of South Suburban Family Shelter (SSFS) are planning a special fundraiser for March 25 to help the agency weather its reduced budget due to lack of state funding.

The party starts at 7 p.m. at the Flossmoor Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. All funds will go directly to SSFS, a Homewood-based not-for-profit organization helping domestic violence victims.

Entertainment will be by MG Bailey, Carrie Bonanotte and Fragile Soul. Prizes will be awarded through raffles. Guests will enjoy a dinner meal. Beer and wine will be available. Donations are being provided by LouLou Belle, UpsaDaisy, Homewood Florist, Healthy Hounds and others.

Tickets are $20, or $16 if purchased online through www.eventbrite.com and seach for Shelter for Shelter. Children under 5 are free. Information is at www.SSFS1.org

SSFS hasn’t received its state funding for the past seven months because the Illinois legislature did not include domestic violence support programs in the temporary state budget it approved last year. The agency is doing its best to meet the needs of its clients, but it has already cut back on a number of services, said SSFS Executive Director Jennifer Gabreyna.
