Prosen, who is completing his fourth year at the Flossmoor school, will become the new principal at Brook Forest School in Butler District 53 in Oak Brook beginning with the 2017-18 school year. The District 53 school board approved Prosen’s hiring on May 8.

Prior to joining Flossmoor District 161, Prosen spent four years as a principal in Medinah School District 11 and had taught in the Chicago Archdiocese school system.

“This is one of those moments in life where both the emotions of sadness and excitement happen at the same time,” Prosen said. ”I have been extremely honored to have been a part of the hard work, commitment and dedication of our students, faculty, staff, parents, administration and school board in our work together.”

Prosen added, “I am confident the Board of Education, Dr. Popp, and Dr. Smith, will work with the community, faculty and staff to find the best possible candidate to lead Western Avenue School into an exciting new and great chapter.

“This is a wonderful community that should be proud of their talents, gifts and work with children.”

Michael Popp is the interim superintendent in District 161. Dana Smith was hired in March as the new superintendent and will begin on July 1.
