On Thursday morning, Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s tennis doubles team of Will Knox and Perry Hoag will be competing in the opening round of Illinois High School Association state tennis championships.

Knox, a senior, and Hoag, a sophomore, are currently 20-6 on the season.

“Will and Perry have come together this year to provide us the best H-F boys doubles team we’ve had in a decade,” said H-F teacher and tennis coach Michael Sacks. “Not only were they able to win conference and sectionals, they were undefeated during both the regular season weekday matches, as well as all matches against teams in the south and southwest suburbs.”
The pair won their matches on Saturday, May 20, to advance to the finals by defeating Thornwood (6-0, 6-0), Crete Monee (6-0, 6-0), Lincoln Way East (6-4, 6-0) and Lincoln Way Central (6-3, 6-1) to claim first place in the sectionals.

“While the path ahead of them is tough at state, we’re hoping they come through with a top 25 finish and All-State Honors. Everyone around our team knows they are capable of achieving that goal if they’re able to bring their best tennis this upcoming weekend, even with the tough competition they will have to face,” Sacks said.

Knox and Hoag advanced to sectionals after defeating Stagg (6-0, 6-0) and Lockport (7-5, 7-6, 7-5) on May 13 winning first place honors in the SWSC Red Division.
