District 161 names new assistant principal at Parker

Jennifer Hartman will be the new assistant principal at Parker Junior High School.

  Jennifer Hartman

The Flossmoor District 161 Board of Education unanimously voted for her appointment at Monday’s meeting.

Hartman, a Lansing native, was introduced at the meeting by Dana Smith, the incoming superintendent.

“She has a strong background in curriculum and program development,” Smith said.

It’s been a year of administrative comings and goings at Parker.

Hartman replaces Shemeka Fountain as assistant principal. According to Interim Superintendent Michael Popp, “Fountain’s resignation was accepted at the board meeting on April 24, effective on June 30.”

Fountain was hired at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year to replace Bruce Nieminski, who took an assistant principal position in Steger.

The shuffling of administrators continued days later when David Kennedy resigned as Parker’s principal after being placed on administrative leave. Vickie Person was named interim principal on Sept. 19. On April 24 the board hired Fred Hunter, who will become principal effective July 1.

Hartman is presently in her fourth year as a teacher for the UNO Charter School Network in Chicago where she is a social studies and English instructor for seventh and eighth grade students.

For five years Hartman taught various subjects for students ranging from sixth to 12th grade at the Perspectives Charter Schools in Chicago.

She began her teaching career as a history and social studies teacher for six years at Sauk Village Consolidated District 168.

Hartman has a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration from Roosevelt University, a Master of Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
