Flossmoor to celebrate the season with Winterfest Dec. 9

The holiday season returns to downtown Flossmoor with a host of Winterfest activities on Dec. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Winterfest, sponsored by the village of Flossmoor, will have additional activities this year in partnership with local businesses.The menorah and Christmas tree lighting will take place at 5:15 p.m. in a new location at Flossmoor Park. Other activities will take place at Park Place, the meeting room in the former warming house at Flossmoor Park. Wiley’s will have a concession area there.

Santa will greet children in the Flossmoor Library starting at 2 pm. At 4:30 pm, Santa will lead the children through downtown Flossmoor to the tree lighting in Flossmoor Park. The Flossmoor Fire Department is sponsoring Santa’s appearance.

Janet Gustafson, known for her holiday displays, will again open her home for Gingerbread House tours. Maps will be provided to Winterfest participants.

Family activities will take place at the Flossmoor Public Library. Coldwell Banker will host a gingerbread house workshop. Flossmoor Station will serve chili and beer on the caboose deck. Downtown businesses will offer specials and be part of the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District story trail with each business having a page for the story.
