H-F Viking Orchestra plans fundraisers for spring trip

Members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Orchestra have set several fundraisers to help reduce the expense of the orchestra’s trip to Germany this spring.

On Oct. 14 and 21, orchestra members will be at the Jewel at 17705 Halsted St. selling Fannie Mae candy bars.

On Oct. 28, look for students at Ebel's Ace Hardware and Subway Restaurant in Cherry Creek Plaza, 183rd and Governors Highway, selling Fannie Mae candy bars.

On Oct. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the lower lever mall entrance of Carson’s in Orland Square Mall, and on Nov. 4 from noon to 2 p.m. at the upper level dress section of Carson’s, students will be selling Carson’s Community Day coupon books.

During the Homewood Holiday Lights festival Dec. 1, orchestra members will be at the Homewood Science Center garage from 4:30 to 9 p.m. assisting children as they decorate holiday cookies.

An estimated 55 students will be representing the Viking Orchestra and Symphonia Orchestra on the seven-day trip leaving March 22 for Berlin. The musicians will perform in Potsdam, Brandenburg in the Berlin region and Pegau, a city in the Leipzig district. They also will be participating in workshops and exchange opportunities in Leipzig.

Students have been fundraising over the summer months to help reduce the costs of their travel.  A major fundraiser, the annual auction, will be held Jan. 20.
