Tuesday meeting to provide information on tax assessments, appeals

Rich Township residents are invited to a Tuesday, Sept. 19, workshop on Cook County property assessment appeals.

The meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Country Club Hills Village Hall, 4200 W. 183rd Street.

Each year, the Cook County Assessor’s Office reassesses one-third of the nearly 1.8 million parcels of property located in Cook County. This year, the assessor’s office is reassessing properties located in the South Suburbs.

Assessor’s office representatives will be present at the workshop to answer questions and assist homeowners in filing assessment appeals. Taxpayers are encouraged to bring their reassessment notices; assessment information will also be distributed by Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios’ office.

Berrios reminds taxpayers that tax years are billed and due for payment in the following calendar year. The time to file appeals on these proposed assessments is now, however, when the reassessment notices are received. Assessor Berrios stressed that homeowners do not need an attorney to file an appeal. There is no fee.
