YouMatter2 raising funds for clean water project

YouMatter2, a youth group doing philanthropic work, is collecting funds to help meet the needs for clean water around the globe.

The group is hosting a Walk for Water 5K on Saturday, April 28, to raise money for this endeavor. Statistics show nearly one billion people do not have access to clean, safe water.

Walkers will meet at the Country Club Hills football field, 4200 W. 175th St. in Country Club Hills. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk will start at 9 a.m. The fee is $15 for adults, $12 for students with school ID, and $5 for children 10 and younger.

The Kenyan Boys Choir will be performing at the event.  Founded in 2014, the choir is one of Kenya’s most celebrated musical groups, showcasing the rich diversity of African music and culture. The choir has toured across Europe and North America, sharing the stage with some of the world’s leading artists. In 2009, the choir performed at the inauguration ceremony of President Barack Obama, which launched them into a career with Universal Music.

Organizers say every $25 raised will help provide clean water to one person for life. For those who can’t make the 5K, donations are being accepted online through the YouMatter2 website.
