Homewood police offering unpaid ticket amnesty program

A one-time amnesty program for unpaid and overdue parking, red light and local ordinance citations will be offered in Homewood, the police department announced this week.
The program allows a 50 percent reduction of fines for citations if they’re paid in full before Nov. 30, when the offer expires. The same reduction is available to anyone with overdue parking, red light or local ordinance citations that were sent to a collection agency before Sept. 1, 2018.
About 34,000 tickets are eligible for the discount, Homewood Police Chief William Alcott said in a statement.
“We’ll be happy to get them off the books,” he said.
The full debt will be due after the program’s expiration date and no extensions beyond will be granted.
The program only extends to existing debts and no refunds for payments made prior to the amnesty period will be issued, according to the village statement. It will not affect any payments made through the Illinois Comptroller’s Local Debt Recovery Program.
To make a payment, contact Municipal Collections Service Inc. at 708-613-2062. For more information visit www.HomeSweetHomewood or contact the Homewood Police Department at 708-206-3420, extension 0.
