Stanback, Trice Jr. lead Vikings to victory

Homewood-Flossmoor High’s Vikings outlasted Lincoln Way East Friday night with a score of 64-54 to give H-F an impressive 5-1 record to start off the basketball season.

Homewood-Flossmoor High’s Vikings outlasted Lincoln Way East Friday night with a score of 64-54 to give H-F an impressive 5-1 record to start off the basketball season.

 
Seniors Issac Stanback and Damen Trice Jr. helped lead the Vikings to victory with 26 and 16 points, respectively. 
 
Two-sport athlete Maurion Scott filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and two blocks. 
 
The game was relatively close during the first half as the visiting Griffins kept up with the Vikings, scoring 27 points to H-F’s 31.
 
Then, H-F broke away in the second half. The Vikings outscored Lincoln-Way East 17-8 in the third quarter. Stanback sparked the run after two thunderous dunks that got everyone in the gym pumped. 
 
Lemone Lampley II contributed 17 points for the Griffins but it wasn’t enough to stop the Vikings. 
 
H-F’s one loss came in the title game of the Chicago Heights Classic on Nov. 23, H-F lost a close game to Bloom in overtime 60-58. The teams will match up again at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in the H-F South Building gym.
