“The county has existing training programs, and does a terrific job providing healthcare for our residents,” she said, but Miller wants to see “a more robust awareness campaign” for county employees and provide easy access to training that will maximize the number of people trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of automated external defibrillators.

The resolution requests that the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, along with the Cook County Department of Public Health and their partners, develop an awareness campaign.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States and in Cook County “and anything we can do to help improve outcomes for our employees, their families and the public should be pursued,” Miller said.

The commissioner said the Cook County Policy Roadmap seeks to create a fair, more equitable Cook County and one of the core policy areas outline in the roadmap is creating healthy communities.
