McClain joined the H-F faculty in 2006. He teaches Advanced Placement Calculus AB and International Baccalaureate Math I in addition to supervising 25 teachers.

To be board certified, McClain successfully complete four components: a test; a project with evidence and artifacts on how to differentiate instruction; videotape lessons to allow for reflection on teaching practices; and attain 600 to 800 hours in professional development over multiple years.

“The No. 1 thing I took away from the experience is the importance of knowing your students,” McClain said. “This certification served as a great reminder of the importance of building relationships with students and the community. It helped me to refocus my instruction to work with students, alongside them.”

McClain now joins the elite ranks of the more than 118,000 educators from across the nation to achieve this honor.

“Earning National Board Certification is no easy task, and we are very proud of what Dan has accomplished,” says District 233 Superintendent Von Mansfield. “Earning this prestigious distinction clearly speaks to Dan’s dedication and passion for academic excellence. He is a great example of the many talented teachers we are proud to have on staff.”
