Tax seminar for veterans set for Feb. 22

A Veterans Property Tax Exemption Seminar will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the VFW Post 311, 22341 Governors Highway, in Richton Park.

Staff members from the Cook County Assessor’s Office will be joined by Sen. Michael Hastings, D-Frankfort, and Bill Brown, director of the Office of Cook County Veterans Affairs, to assist veterans in completing their Disabled Veterans Exemption applications or assist with the application process for any other exemptions to which they may be entitled.

The Disabled Veterans Exemption must be applied for annually. This year the deadline is March 7. Applicants must provide a current service-connected disability certification letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the tax year of the exemption.  First time applicants must also provide a Department of Defense DD Form 214.

Additional information regarding the Disabled Veterans Exemption and other exemptions available to homeowners may be found at this link on the assessor’s web site: http://sub.cookcountyassessor.com/Exemptions/Exemption-Forms.aspx
