Taylor Ausley, who graduated in June from Homewood-Flossmoor High School, met U.S. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., in Washington the week of June 25 and got to see her winning 2nd Congressional District art piece hung in the U.S. Capitol.

Ausley’s “Chief Halo,” a painting of a Native American in ceremonial headdress, won the 2018 Congressional Art Competition sponsored by Kelly this spring.

Kelly, who represents Homewood and Flossmoor in Congress, had 37 students in her district submit their works for judging.

“I’m very proud to have such a beautiful painting and remarkable young artist representing the 2nd District. Our community truly is home to many talented young artists,” she said.

The painting will be displayed in the Cannon access tunnel to the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

Ausley, of Homewood, will attend the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in the fall. Judges at the Senior Scholarship Exhibition at the Zhou B. Art Center in February selected a painting on glass by Ausley as outstanding and awarded her a presidential scholarship and an admissions scholarship to the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.
H-F High's Taylor Ausley painted "Chief Halo," the
