H-F graduate wins $25,000 scholarship

Raven Davis, a June graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, won a $25,000 scholarship from Taco Bell Foundation.

She will be attending DePaul University and will be majoring in film.

Davis, of Flossmoor, is one of 16 students to win the scholarship and one of 11 winners in the Chicago area.

In a short video that was her application for the scholarship, Davis describes her passion for film and film production. She told judges that since she’s been young, she was using film to create parodies and small videos. She was a student in the H-F broadcasting program.

In college, Davis hopes to earn internships that will enable her to make connections into the film industry. Her goal is to be as creative as Steven Spielberg and recognized for her abilities. She wants to break the glass ceiling for African-American women who are capable of directing big budget film projects.
