Raymond Camp, a registered nurse who has been with Franciscan Health Olympia Fields for more than three years, is the hospital’s first DAISY Award winner. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

The Homewood resident was recognized for giving exemplary assistance and care to its patients. The nomination came from a patient's husband.
In the nomination, the husband said, "[Camp] was not only the expected professional and efficient nurse, but also very friendly, personable, joyful, sharing and caring. He checked in on my wife almost every 30 minutes and was quick to respond to her needs and requests. He deserves more than a verbal pat on the back.”

As part of his award, Camp received a DAISY award pin, The Healer's Touch sculpture, a DAISY Award certificate and a box of Cinnabon cinnamon rolls to share with his coworkers. Funding for the DAISY award presentation is provided by the Franciscan Health Foundation.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an internationally recognized honor that was established in 1999 via the DAISY Foundation by members of the family of Patrick Barnes. The award was established to honor what his family perceived to be extraordinary kindness and compassion by the nurses caring for him during his illness.

More information about the award can be found at www.daisyfoundation.org.
