Prairie State graduate recognized for outstanding achievement

Martinez was named to the 2018 Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team in recognition of his academic excellence, leadership and service that benefited society. Students selected for the honor must have maintained a 3.50 or higher GPA.
 

He was awarded the 2018 Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders. He was one of 20 high school and college students from across the country to receive the award.
 
In the past two years, he has received the PSC Board of Trustees Scholarship and a scholarship award from Phi Theta Kappa. 
 
As a student in the Dual Degree Program with Governors State University (GSU), Martinez also recently was named a recipient of the Promise Scholarship, an award that covers the full cost of tuition and fees at GSU. He plans to attend GSU in the fall to complete a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, with a minor in accounting.
 
Martinez served as president of the All Latin Alliance, and was a member of the Nu Sigma Chapter of PTK and Psi Beta and TRiO Student Support Services. 
 
He has been involved in a number of volunteer activities with All Latin Alliance, including several fundraising initiatives in cooperation with the PSC Foundation; a “Know Your Rights” event; the Halloween Fun Fest for the community; and assisting when the Mexican Consulate set up on the PSC campus to assist community members. 
 
Martinez is a 2016 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School. He is the son of Salvador Martinez and Maria Baldovinos of Homewood.
