Volunteer for community cleanup on March 17

Time to go green by helping the community spring clean.

The H-F Area Green Committee is hosting a spring cleanup initiative from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 17, that will have volunteers helping to clean up the trash and refurbish areas just as spring arrives.

“After the snow melts we thought it would be a necessity because you can really see all the garbage left behind,” said Carrie Malfeo, one of the organizers.

Volunteers will work on a variety of projects, from laying down wood chips at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center to cleaning the perimeter of Dolphin Lake to sprucing up the paths around schools.

If you have a special location that needs some attention, select a sponsor who will direct the volunteers on site and add it to the list of projects.

Anyone can volunteer, but those younger than 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Information on the projects and how to sign up to work on one is on the Village of Flossmoor website.
