Elderly woman injured in purse snatching

The Homewood Police Department reported a purse snatching at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, in the vicinity of Center and Olive Roads. 

The Homewood Police Department reported a purse snatching at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, in the vicinity of Center and Olive Roads.

According to police, the suspect pushed an 80-year-old woman to the ground and stole her purse. She was treated at a local hospital for lacerations to her face.

The suspect fled on foot, police said. He was last seen in the area of 183rd Street and Aberdeen, which is the location of James Hart School.

The school was placed on a code yellow lockdown as a precautionary measure while police searched the area. Homewood District 153 officials said the lockdown, which prevents anyone from entering or leaving the building, ended at 9:45 a.m.

Glenwood police and the Cook County K9 Unit were assisted in the search for the suspect, who was not located, police said.
