Works of new composer and two greats performed at IPO final concert

The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra will conclude its 40th anniversary season at 7:30 p.m. on April 14 with a work by 21st century composer Gity Razaz and pieces by Dvorak and Tchaikovsky.

The program will be at Ozinga Chapel, 6601 W. College Drive on the campus of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights.

IPO music director Stilian Kirov says “Arizona Dreams” by Razaz “is more than inspiring. I got to know her work when we were both students at Juilliard and was always impressed by the magical orchestral universes she creates.”

Razaz has written commissioned pieces for several orchestras and wrote an original score for Ballet Moscow. The ballet first performed the work in 2017.

“Czech Suite,” a folk-inspired work by Dvorak and the “Fifth Symphony” by Tchaikovsky will round out the program.

A pre-concert question and answer session with Kirov and IPO Concertmaster Azusa Tashiro will begin at 6:25 p.m. The H-F Strings will give a performance in the lobby from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.

Tickets prices vary. For additional information, contact IPO at 708-481-7774 or visit ipomusic.org.
