Homewood Public Works requests contract for cloud-based monitoring system

The Homewood Public Works Department will have a new tool to help monitor village assets and manage work flow if the board of trustees approves a $28,500 contract with Dude Solutions of Cary, North Carolina, for a cloud-based system.

According to John Schaefer, director of public works, the new system is expected to be easier to use and more flexible than the current system. Mobile devices will provide crews the capability to monitor assets like street lights, HVAC systems and manhole covers, plus track work orders, timelines and cost.

In other business, trustees will consider

  • A variance to allow an oversized garage at 2051 175th St.
  • A resolution authorizing $20,000 to be allocated from the Motor Fuel Tax fund for street milling and surface mix material.
  • A bid for street sweeping Lakeshore Recycling Systems at a cost not to exceed $70,000.
  • Reappointing Fred Sierzega to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
During the presentations portion of the meeting, Eric Fritz will be sworn in as utility division supervisor for the Public Works Department and Mayor Richard Hofeld will issue a proclamation designating the week of May 14 through May 20 as National Public Works Week in Homewood.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
