District 153 students honored at ‘Pass the Baton’ music banquet

The District 153 Music Parents Association hosted the nearly 200 students in the music programs at James Hart School in Homewood at its “Pass the Baton” banquet May 2.
During the program, several special awards were presented.
The William Luke Award, the top overall award for an outstanding student in multiple groups, was given to Kaitlyn Bolton-Shannon, a clarinetist with the orchestra and a singer in choir. The award is presented to an eighth grader who participated in several music programs and demonstrated exemplary musicianship and leadership.
The Jane Hindsley Award was presented to Emmanuelle Bouyer, a percussionist and piano player; Marisa Robinson, a violinist; McKenzie Ray, a cellist; and Phoenix McCoy, a singer. The award is given to seventh graders who demonstrated outstanding conduct and selfless dedication on a consistent basis.
The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award went to Bill Colton, trumpet player, for his outstanding work with the James Hart Jazz Band.
The John Philip Sousa Band Award was given to Charlie Knetl, tuba player, and Wynton Wright, percussionist. The eighth graders were recognized for their excellent musicianship, citizenship and leadership.
The National Orchestra Award was presented to violinist Sophia Hinich. The award is given to an eighth grader who demonstrated excellent musicianship, citizenship and leadership.
The National Choral Award was given to Aaron Latman and Ellie Wojcikowski, eighth graders who demonstrated excellent musicianship, citizenship and leadership.
The Chamber Award given to chamber ensemble member Lucas Bouchie, a violinist, for his demonstrated excellent musicianship, citizenship and leadership.
The Choral Ensemble Award was presented to Jayden Daley and Alex Bertucci for their musicianship, citizenship and leadership.
