Two H-F sophomores to represent Illinois at national track meet

Kaylah McCall and Asanti Denton, two sophomore members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School girls track and field team, will be representing Illinois at a national track meet June 1 and 2 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

They will travel by bus with the rest of the team to the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic. They will have a few days of practice before the meet begins.

At the IHSA Class 3A track meet May 17 and 18, McCall took first place honors in the 100-meter hurdles. Denton placed fifth in the 400-meter and was one of the H-F team members in the 4×400 that took third place.

H-F coach Zontavius Johnson said the Illinois organizing representative was at the IHSA meet and approaches the girls’ parents asking for permission for them to participate.

“It’s a chance for them to get out in front of the best of the best of high school track. It’s basically the best of all the states at this meet,” the coach said, adding he’s happy his team members will get the experience of a national meet competition.
