Homewood trustees to consider Harvey water rate study

At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Homewood Board of Trustees will consider hiring a consulting firm to conduct a study of the water costs incurred by the city of Harvey.

The study is intended to establish actual costs for Harvey to deliver water to Homewood and several other area communities. Harvey claims the water rates it charges are below its costs and is considering a rate hike, according to Village Manager Jim Marino.

The village's contract to buy water from Harvey expires in 2022.

The board will also consider a measure that will help pave the way for a potential new development on land at the northeast corner of Chestnut Road and Harwood Avenue, currently serving as the village hall parking lot.

The village is working with a prospective developer, but is required to seek alternative bids for the sale of the land.

In other business, the board will consider
  • An ordinance to grant a raffle license to Glenwood Academy to hold a Queen of Hearts raffle.

  • An ordinance to establish a foreclosed and vacant property registry to help the village work with property owners on maintenance and safety issues.

  • A budget amendment and bid award for the replacement of the fire department's garage exhaust system.

  • An amendment to the municipal code governning mobile home parks.

There will be two presentations, including the oath of office administered to new utility billing clerk Allyson Lesinski and a proclamation celebrating School Board Members Day.

The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
