Santa parade, holiday hunt highlight Flossmoor Winterfest Dec. 8

Amid all that making lists and checking them twice, Santa is making an early holiday stop at Flossmoor’s annual Winterfest celebration on Dec. 8. The man in the red suit will be on hand for photos at Winterfest and will then lead a parade from the Flossmoor Public Library to Flossmoor Park for the village’s tree lighting ceremony.

The H-F Chronicle has not received any confirmation about whether any reindeer or elves will be present. But Santa will have plenty of helpers, both young and old.

Winterfest activities are taking place from noon to 5 p.m. in downtown Flossmoor.

This year’s Winterfest will also mark the kickoff of Flossmoor’s first business holiday hunt. Beginning Dec. 8, everyone is invited to visit participating downtown and Flossmoor Commons businesses to find the hidden Flossmoor logo. Participants will be entered into a raffle to win a Flossmoor business gift basket. The business holiday hunt, which lasts until Dec. 31, is sponsored by Flossmoor’s Community Relations Commission.

This year’s Winterfest starts at noon at Flossmoor Park and at local businesses. Santa will be available for photos with pets at Park Place until 1:30 p.m. The photo session is sponsored by the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District.

From noon until 5 p.m., Flossmoor businesses will be open for special holiday activities and sales.

Walking tours to Janet Gustafson’s magical gingerbread display at her house will leave from Flossmoor Park between noon and 3 p.m.

At 2 p.m., Santa will relocate to the library, where he will be available for pictures until 4:30 p.m. The library will also be the site of Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun’s storytime session. Local Girl Scouts will make holiday crafts at the library.

Santa will lead the parade to Flossmoor Park at 4:30 p.m. and the menorah and tree lighting is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Winterfest is supported by the Village of Flossmoor, Flossmoor Public Library, Flossmoor Business Association and the Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Corporation.
