Snow expected early Monday as first storm of the season rolls in

The Homewood-Flossmoor area is included in a winter storm warning that is in effect until 9 a.m. Monday but is not expected to bear the brunt of the first big snow storm of the season.

Areas to the north will not be so lucky, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

The situation continues to change, so residents might want to check the forecast during the day. As of 9 a.m. Sunday, the forecast called for rain in H-F turning to snow about 3 a.m. Monday with about 1 to 3 inches of accumulation.

As of 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the forecast calls for H-F to get 3 to 7 inches of snow.

The storm is expected to drop between 5 and 10 inches of snow — or more — elsewhere in Cook County, with rates as high as 2 inches per hour at times. Winds might gust to as high as 45 miles per hour.

Forecasters warn that the heavy snow could make travel and snow removal very difficult.

Following the storm, temperatures are expected to drop, with lows Monday and Tuesday nights in the mid-teens.
