Teen facing multiple charges after shots are fired on Flossmoor street

A Flossmoor teenager was charged with three weapons-related felonies less than 24 hours after shots were fired at an intersection in the village, police said.
The 17-year-old male was arrested at his home at 1:20 p.m. on Sept. 29, and is in custody as a juvenile in the Cook County court system, Flossmoor Deputy Chief Tod Kamleiter said Monday.
The youth is facing charges of aggravated custody of a weapon, aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Kamleiter said witnesses provided information that made it possible to locate both the victims and alleged assailants shortly after shots were fired at about 2:40 p.m. on Friday. The incident took place at the intersection of Park Drive and Wallace Drive at a time when many students were walking home from nearby Parker Junior High School.
Witnesses said a confrontation took place between four persons – all males – who drove to the intersection in two cars. An assailant fired two shots toward two of the men, who drove away from the scene witnesses said.
Kamleiter said all four persons were outside the cars when the shots were fired.
Police got a description of the victims’ car from the witnesses, Kamleiter said, and it was located a short time later in the South Building parking lot at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. The victims were able to provide information that led to the arrest of the alleged assailant on Saturday. That person’s companion was not charged with any crimes, Kamleiter said.
One shell casing was found at the intersection and it appears to have come from a .25-caliber automatic, he said. A weapon has not been recovered.
Kamleiter said neither the alleged assailant nor anyone else involved in the incident attend schools in the H-F area. The two victims are “young adults,” he said.
It appears that Friday’s incident was related to a longstanding dispute between some of the persons at the scene of the confrontation, he said.
No one was injured in Friday’s incident.
