Parker runners score high at cross country conference meet

Four Parker Junior High School runners were conference champions at the Sept. 28 SSJSA Conference cross country meet. Parker’s team competed agains nine other schools at the meet, which took place at Apollo Park in Homewood. 

Four Parker Junior High School runners were conference champions at the Sept. 28 SSJSA Conference cross country meet. Parker’s team competed agains nine other schools at the meet, which took place at Apollo Park in Homewood. 
 
Each of the 10 schools were allowed to have seven runners participating in each race.  
 
Naima Douglas was the conference champion with a Parker course record of 12:35 in the 7th grade girls race. Parker had seven of the top 10 runners. Eva Marete placed 11th, Dia Jefferson placed 9th, Sophia Perez placed 8th, Maddy Levy placed 4th, Emily Thompson placed 3rd and Grace Mullin placed 2nd. 
 
Damarion Best was the conference champion in the 7th grade boys race with a time of 12:12, a Parker record for his grade. Parker had five of the top six runners. Eric Johnson placed 6th overall, Matthius Douglas placed 4th, Gus Zillman placed 3rd and John Hockenberry placed 2nd.
 
In the 8th grade girls race, Daija Brown was the conference champion with an 8th grade girls course record of 13:08. Parker had all seven girls earn all-conference honors. Jane Ermshler placed 10th, Ella Aceves placed 6th, Avery Radosta placed 5th, Caroline Schoen placed 4th, Samantha Gorton placed 3rd and Haley Trojan placed 2nd. 
 
 In the 8th grade boys race Dane Ivancevic had a time of 12:04 and was the was the overall conference champion in a time of 12:04. All seven Parker boys earned all-conference honors.  Luke VanVoorhees placed 9th, Moises Contreras placed 7th, Vince Waterman placed 6th, Joshua Moore placed 4th, John Lampley placed 3rd and Bennett Reich placed 2nd. 
 
The team will compete in Saturday’s IESA Sectional Meet at Martino Junior High School in New Lenox to compete for a berth in the IESA state meet Oct. 13 in Normal.
