The Homewood-Flossmoor High School varsity golf team will take their skills to the Illinois High School Association state championships on Oct. 12 and 13 after winning the sectionals championship.

“The team is peaking at the right time, and I couldn’t be more proud of how we played and how we persevered in the ridiculously tough conditions at the sectional tournament,” said H-F teacher Chris Siglic, who serves as team coach. “Winning the sectional wasn’t on our minds, playing to the best of our ability both physically and mentally was the top priority.”

It is the first time since 2011 that H-F has won the sectionals match.

The golf team took third place in the IHSA tournament at Inwood Golf Club in Joliet on Oct. 2. The team was led by senior Perry Hoag, who took first place with an even par score of 71. Senior Hayden Henry came in third place with 73, a score of two over par. Sophomore Chris Radosta shot a 78.

Although the team placed third, their position won them the right to advance to sectionals in Edwardsville. The team won the sectionals championship Monday, Oct. 8, playing against 11 other teams.

For the match at Sunset Hills Country Club, H-F had a team total score of 317, besting second place finisher University High by nine shots.

The team was led by seniors Henry, with a score of 74 to take first place, and Hoag, with a score of 77 to take second place. Sophomores Chris Radosta, who shot a 79, and Quinn Henry, who shot an 87, contributed to the total team effort.

For this final effort, the coach said, “We have an opportunity to finish in the top eight at state but will have to rely heavily on both Hayden and Perry,” who have played all four years on the golf team.
