“I certainly feel a sense of accomplishment, but at the same time, I’m not winded. I could do it all over again, and I probably will,” Swenson said. “I enjoy treating patients robotically because it takes minimally invasive surgery to another level. The surgeon can see even better, up close and in 3D. The ability to dissect and suture is much better than conventional laparoscopy.”

The most common cases he completes are abdominal wall and groin hernia repair, colon resections and gallbladder removal.

He has also done diaphragm hernia repairs, spleen removal, scar tissue removal and lap band removals.

“I especially enjoy performing right hemicolectomy (removal of right side of colon) and single-site gallbladder procedures for patients,” he said. “To be able to manage a gallbladder procedure with one incision is truly amazing, and there are more procedures like this coming our way.”

Swenson says robotic surgery is here to stay.

“I like to mention to my patients that I’ve done as many robotic procedures as I have. I think they are more comfortable with their procedure when they hear that. I enjoy seeing my patients back in the office after their robotic procedures. The outcomes are great.”
