Suspect in custody after threats made against H-F High School

Flossmoor police have apprehended an individual who allegedly posted messages on multiple social media platforms on Saturday threatening violence at Homewood-Flossmoor High School on Monday.

“The suspect is currently in custody and charges are pending in connection with the threat,” police said in an email announcement. “This is an ongoing investigation. We thank Homewood-Flossmoor High School and the public for their cooperation in our efforts.
Additional information will be shared with the public when charges are filed.”

An email from H-F Superintendent Von Mansfield and Principal Jerry Lee Anderson on Saturday evening informed parents that a concerned community member forwarded copies of two social media posts showing a photo of a firearm and threats against the school.

“We immediately contacted the Flossmoor Police Department,” the administrators said. “Any threat against our school community is unsettling; we want to reassure students, staff and families that the authorities will be holding the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law and that the school will be seeking appropriate disciplinary action.”

School will be open on Monday, they said.

They urged parents to discuss the incident with students and impress upon them the seriousness of such threats and ask them to “report any unsettling or inappropriate actions or postings that they may see.”

“We would like to thank the individuals who made the initial report, and the many people who contacted us to report concerns,” they said. “We’d like to thank the Flossmoor Police Department for their efforts and for responding so quickly.”
